Laughlin is centrally located between the Los
Angeles Basin and Phoenix, just 90
miles south of Las Vegas., and is
set in a rugged mountain terrain which
gently slopes to the cool banks of
the Colorado River. Laughlin is an
easy drive from Las Vegas, Southern
California of Arizona by car, bus
or shuttle.
Laughlin, named in 1968 after its
founder and owner of the Riverside
resort, Don Laughlin, is known in
the Southwest as a preferred alternative
to Las Vegas. Laughlin delivers a
picturesque river setting, an enjoyable
pace, safe thoroughfares and a friendly
atmosphere where visitors are recognized.
You can even travel from Casino to
Casino via water taxi along the river.
Horizon Outlet Center
Located in the heart of the city's
gaming and entertainment district
on Casino Drive across from the Flamingo
Hilton: 55 merchants, indoor food
court and market, 9-screen cinema
and eight acres of convenient indoor
parking.
Lake Mohave/Lake Mead National
Recreation Area is located
in southern Nevada and northwestern
Arizona, less than a one-hour drive
from Las Vegas and within a six-hour
drive from Los Angeles and Phoenix.
The Lake Mead NRA contains 1.5 million
acres of federal and non-federal land
and encompasses two reservoirs formed
by the Colorado River: Lake Mead and
Lake Mohave. Lake Mead is formed by
the Hoover Dam and is 110-miles long.
Lake Mohave is 67 miles long and formed
by the Davis Dam.
Big Bend State Recreation
Area is located five miles
south of Laughlin on the Needles Highway.
The park is within the town limits
of Laughlin, one mile south of Casino
Drive on South Needles Hwy.
Davis Dam is located
just north of the Laughlin, Nevada
bridge to Bullhead City, Arizona on
the Colorado River. North of the dam
is Lake Mohave, part of the Lake Mead
National Recreation Area. Completed
in 1953, Davis Dam is an earth and
rock-filled structure designed to
control flash floods and generate
hydroelectric power.
Parker Dam
Located approximately 88 miles south
of Laughlin, at the Arizona–California
line, on the Colorado River; completed
1938. It is 320 ft (98 m) high and
856 ft (261 m) long. The dam impounds
water for Los Angeles and other coastal
cities, has a power plant, and supplies
some water for irrigation. It also
diverts water to Arizona.
Lake Havasu/ London Bridge
Lake Havasu stretches northward for
45 miles behind Parker Dam. Lake Havasu
City has been dubbed the "Personal
Watercraft Capital of the World. Boating,
fishing and an array of watersports
are available. Straddling the Lake
is the famous London Bridge. Brought
over brick-by-brick from England and
reassembled in 1971, it forms the
central focus for an English Village
with themed shops and restaurants.
Katherine Landing
Large and popular resort area located
on the southeast end of Lake Mohave
near Davis Dam and Bullhead City,
Arizona. Primary facilities include
marina with launch ramp and boat shop,
two motels and restaurant, swim beach,
picnic shelters, amphitheater, campground,
two trailer villages, store, gas station,
ranger station, and comfort station.
Katherine Mine
A once booming late 19th Century gold
mine, the ruins are located near the
Katherine Landing area along a ridge
running east of the turn-off to the
Telephone Cove area. The Katherine
Mine is only one of many such mines
dotting the area, located a short
distance from the shores of Lake Mohave.
Oatman
Once a thriving mining community,
Oatman, Arizona, takes visitors back
to the days of the Old West with weekend
cowboy gunfights and showdowns in
the middle of town. Wild burros roam
the streets of this popular setting
for many movies and TV Westerns. Oatman's
most famous visitors were Clark Gable
and Carol Lombard who stayed there
briefly during their well-publicized
"elopement" in the 1930s.
Gold Road Mine Tour
Tour the 1900 mine at the Gold Roads,
Arizona Mining Camp from the Old Gold
Boom Days. Located 2½ miles
East of Oatman, Arizona on Historical
Route 66. Enjoy a safe and delightful
guided tour of a real old time underground
gold mine. The one hour experience
is exciting for everyone, and "user
friendly" for the physically
challenged. Tours are scheduled every
30 minutes.
Christmas Tree Pass and Grapevine
Canyon
Head West from Laughlin, Nv on Hwy
163 for approximately 5 miles. Turn
right onto Christmas Tree Pass. Head
North on the Christmas Tree Pass Road
for approximately 2 miles to a left
turn into Grapevine Canyon. This area
is ideal for hiking, camping, photography
and exploring. The area boasts of
a number of fascinating Indian petroglyphs
that adorn the canyon's sheer cliff
walls.
